I believe it is high time to move on to ready to wear for fall of 2008. After all it is nearing the middle of the summer and we should be planning our fall investments by now. I’m going to try to do things in alphabetic order for fall of 2008. Consequently I will start my coverage of the ready to wear 2008 fall season with 3.1 Phillip Lim.

This dress is a throw back to 1990’s style. The idea of wearing two dresses in one, the sheer outer layer and the slightly less sheer inner sheath, doesn’t sound that appealing. Also the floral work on the top layer really isn’t doing it for me it looks way too grandma.

This dress is alright. It is a little bit like the dresses we are seeing at the malls, you know the ones that have a band around the legs instead of a hem line. This trend definitely trickled up because I have been seeing this silhouette in he all at stores like forever 21 and Charlotte Russe for some time now. If you take off the light grey sweater this dress would look just fine on its own. The grey on grey brings the whole look down.

This look reminds me of two separate Michael Jackson videos. The gold lame jacket is very “Beat it” while the smattering of rhinestones across the abdomen of this dress looks almost like the Michael’s sparkling pants and shirt in “Rock with you”. I really like the jacket although I’m not going to be the one wearing it. The dress on the other hand is more like something I would at least try on, though the side drape doesn’t strike me as being that flattering to the front of the body.

This is a very swashbuckling look for fall 2008. Theres nothing really wrong with this look its just a little too pirate for my taste. Maybe pirate is not even the word I’m looking for because I thought of this model emerging from an early morning fog, bag in hand, returning home after a long night out of doing something bad. On second thought maybe I can go for this look.

There is nothing flattering about this over draped dress or floppy sweater. This whole look lacks structure and thusly the curves of the body are lost. I don’t know why Philip Lim insists on all the diagonal draping in his dress this season. This dress looks more like curtains than something anyone would want to wear on a night out.

That necklace is something else, so big and abstract. That is the way a lot of jewelry is looking for fall of 2008. Grey on grey isn’t a good look in my opinion but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate these pieces separately. Especially the light grey deep v-neck sweater which would be perfect for fall layering.
There is a lot more to see from 3.1 Philip Lim so this article like pretty much every other fall 2008 artcile to come will be a two part series. See you in the next article!
