Betsey Johnson is out there and so is her jewelry. That is precisely why we love her and her jewelry so much.  Her designs are not made for wallflowers. No where is that more evident than Betsey’s jewelry line. Catering to our love of all things shiny be it crystal or hard lacquered plastics Betsey Johnson’s jewelry is an overindulgent feast for the eyes.

The “sweetie pie” motif is repeated throughout Betsey’s jewelry line as seen here in the bracelet pictured above. Below are two examples of necklaces that use the same “sweetie pie” motif. The necklace on the right is a more abstract representation of the motif while the necklace on the left is certainly a more direct representation. At first glance the obvious choice to match the “sweetie pie” bracelet is the “sweetie pie” necklace but for true Betsey fans it would defeat the purpose of wearing something as unique as Betsey Johnson by making it too mundane and matchy matchy.

Bows, much like the “sweetie pie” motif are everywhere in this jewelry line. Betsey is known for her love of bows, she put them on everything. The necklace and earrings above are prime examples of her bow obsession. I don’t know what it is about all these tiny bows but they really do make you feel a little special when you’re dripping in them. Because when you think about it, what better way is there to show you are a gift to the world than dangling so many tiny bows from your ears, to your neck and down to your chest?

I love animal inspired jewelry! Many different animals serve as inspirations in Betsey’s jewelry line. For example the giraffe is featured in a delightful pair of mismatch earrings and also on the copper tones cameo-esque bracelet above. Other animal inspirations include seahorses, poodles, and of course the ubiquitous uses of leopard print.

Here we have an extreme close up of my favorite necklace in the whole line. The tiny medallions look like they are made from pressed pennies and I don’t know what it is about cake and ice cream that makes me want to wear it around my neck but I really really do. This necklace would be a great gift for a birthday when everyone likes to have a little bit of cake and ice cream in their lives.

While there are many ways to coordinate your Betsey Johnson jewelry, whether it is by motif, similar inspirations or like metals, you definitely don’t have to bother. Many if not all of the pieces from above would stand beautifully alone as the sole focal point of a simpler outfit.  There is hardly a piece in the Betsey Johnson jewelry line that can be describe as demure.
